This is a current work in progress.

The White Hound is a longtime favorite fairytale of mine. The project is ten illustrations; I am including the rough thumbnails, sketches and two final illustrations below. This will be updated as I complete each spread.

The White Hound by Barbara Leonie Picard is about a princess who is told she must be wed. Along come the princes, but one unfortunately runs into a witch’s garden in the forest, and steps on her flowers. Angrily, she turns him into a white hound, with a tricky set of events that must be done to undo the spell. Luckily for him, he ends up in the castle of the princess, and she is able to turn his luck. There is a dragon with a sword, a tiny cat and a line up with roses! Of course, there is also her finger wagging nurse in the mix who is there to remind everyone how dangerous it all is!

Should I be so lucky, I hope to illustrate one of her stories (if not this one ;)) someday for modern audiences.
